Maracaibo is a large city in western Venezuela. It is situated on the shore of Lake Maracaibo, and is featured in Mercenaries 2: World in Flames.
Overview[]
In Mercenaries 2: World in Flames, Maracaibo is the first major city where the player encounters his/her second faction, Universal Petroleum. It is also the headquarters of Universal Petroleum's operations in Venezuela.
The Venezuelan Army also maintains a small presence in Maracaibo, mostly along the north-eastern shore of the city and at the Maracaibo Airport. The player is forced to destroy large parts of Maracaibo, including the UP headquarters, in a mission for the Chinese People's Liberation Army. Maracaibo is mostly occupied by Universal Petroleum in the first half of the game.
In the second half of the game, the Allied Nations and the People's Liberation Army invade Venezuela, and the Allies take control over Maracaibo. UP still has a small presence in Maracaibo, but is mostly replaced by the Allies. At this point, most of the city becomes leveled. If the Chinese destroy the UP HQ however, Universal Petroleum abandons the ruins to the Allied patrols that remain.
