The Covert SMG is a stealth submachine gun featured in Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction and Mercenaries 2: World in Flames.

OverviewEdit

The Covert SMG is an MP5SD, an MP5 with an integrated silencer. On top of being suppressed which does not really seem to affect gameplay much since AI notices 'silenced' gunfire, it is more accurate, controllable and powerful than the machine pistols but has a smaller clip of 30 and a slower rate of fire. In Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction, it's seen being used by the South Korean Special Forces. However in Mercenaries 2: World in Flames the Covert SMG is never used by any faction.

The Covert SMG is not very strong, but it makes up in stealth based missions such as the mission 'Gambit' in Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction. Due to it being a 'sub-sonic' weapon it has poor stopping power, but any weapon that can hit the head usually kills. Though fairly inaccurate, it is better than the Assault Rifle or SMG.

in Mercenaries 2: World in Flames It can be purchased from the Pirates in the Covert Weapons drop for $10k with the Covert Pistol included. The crate has Universal Petroleum markings. It is unlocked at the shop after destroying several targets for the Pirates.

A Covert Supply Drop can be found near the North-Western barrack on Isla de Fortelaza (until the player does the 'Tropical Island Getaway' contract, that is.)

Real LifeEdit

The H&K MP5 is a submachine gun that is famed for its use among police forces as well as military special forces. Using a 9x19mm Parabellum round, it lacks stopping power yet makes up for it in its compact nature. This MP5 variant is the MP5SD.
